Why We Started Camping as a Family?

The Wake-Up Call
From 2017 to 2019, my career had me constantly on the move. I was traveling 3–4 times a month, with 12–15 international trips each year. On paper, it looked like success. In reality, life felt like a blur. I was missing birthdays, school events, and the kind of everyday family time that builds real memories.
One day, it hit me: my kids were growing up fast, and I wasn’t truly there for it. I did not want to continue missing real life, in the name of providing for it. That was the wake-up call.
Choosing Family Over the Grind
I realized I needed to make a change. We didn’t want to keep waiting for “someday” to slow down. We wanted to be present now. That’s when we turned to camping.
At first, it was tents and the basics. Setting up camp became an adventure in itself — laughter over a crooked tent pole, cooking over the fire, watching the stars. But as our love for the outdoors grew, we upgraded to a camper, giving us more comfort and flexibility for longer family trips.
Why Camping Works for Us
Camping wasn’t just a vacation idea — it became a lifestyle shift. Here’s why it worked for our family:
Time together, without distractions – No meetings, no flights to catch. Just us.
An antidote to burnout – The peace of nature helped me disconnect from the nonstop work cycle.
Memories in the making – From campfires to chai in the mornings, each trip gave us shared stories.
Affordable adventures – Compared to big vacations, camping let us explore often without breaking the bank.
Family bonding – Our boys learned independence, responsibility, and the joy of exploring the outdoors.
Lessons Learned Around the Campfire
Through camping, we’ve learned that:
You don’t need luxury to feel rich. Sometimes, a simple campfire and laughter are worth more than a five-star hotel.
Memories matter more than milestones. School plays and birthdays are the moments kids will remember.
Nature resets everything. The quiet of the woods or the sound of a river can put life back into perspective.
Our Ongoing Journey
What started as a way to spend more time with our boys has grown into something much bigger. Camping has given us the chance to slow down, reconnect, and create memories that will last long after the kids head off to college.
For us, camping is more than a hobby. It’s a choice — to live intentionally, to prioritize family, and to enjoy the little things, one campfire at a time.
